Michael Hanagan is a visiting scholar at Vassar College. He is the author of several books on labor history and co-editor of a number of books on contentious action, most recently with Chris Tilly, Contention and Trust in Cities and States. He is currently collaborating on a world history textbook to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2015 and, with Miriam Cohen, on a comparative study of the welfare state in England, France and the United States. He is a member of the editorial board of International Labor and Working-Class History, and an editor of the Cambridge Series on Contentious Politics. He taught at Vassar in the History Department and International Studies program from 2003-2013. He also taught at Vanderbilt University, Columbia University and the New School for Social Research.
